Abstract:
In the present study carboxymethylelluose/poly(acrylamide) interpenetrating polymer network (NaCMc/PAAm IPNs) were synthesized, characterized and tested for the development of controlled release of drug. The hydrogels containing different homopolymer compositions (1:2, 1:1 and 2:1) were crosslinked with citric acid and N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide(MBAAm). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to confirm the characteristic absorption bands of chemical functionalities in the IPNs. These hydrogels were also studied in the terms of, gel content, swelling and morphology. Drug loading capacity and release properties of hydrogels were investigated. The results from gel fraction (%) and FT-IR analysis indicated that NaCMC/PAAm blends were successfully prepared and crosslinked. The effect of pH on the swelling ratio was also studied. The swelling ratio of NaCMC/PAAm hydrogels increased with increasing the content of NaCMC and solution pH. The highest swelling ratio of 144 was measured from NaCMC/PAAm (2:1) at pH. To evaluate the possibility violet (MV) was used as a model drug and ibuprofen drug for studying the drug loading capacity and release behavior.it was found that drug for studying the drug loading capacity and release behavior. It was found that drug loading capacity of NaCMC/PAAm hydrogel increased with increasing the NaCMC composition.
