dc.description.abstractalternative“A Study on Chanthaburi Ceramics Technology” is a research project to study about the background, techniques, production process, relations with other kiln sites, as well as categories and forms of Ceramics product of Chanthaburi Ceramics. Data were collected by means of field studies, observation, and interviews with personal in 7 Ceramics plants. According to research, Ceramics production in Chanthaburi was first established at Ban Toa Mo, Amphoe Tha Mai, by Hakka Chinese potters from Swatow (Shantoa), Guangdong Province, China. The kiln were inherited by their relatives from mainland China, and have since existed for over 100 years. Chanthaburi Ceramics of Ratchaburi and Pak Kret in Nonthaburi. The Chanthaburi Ceramics has gone through phases of development and is now in its 3rd and 4th generation; and the products can be classitied into 4 categories: 1. Jar, bowls, and plant post: shaped by wheel throwing, coated with clay slip and ash glazes, wood-fired at temperatures between 1,200-1,230 °C. 2. Terracotta tiles and architectural element: shaped by pressing, coated with clay slip and lead glazes, fired in automatic gas kiln at a temperature of approximately 950 °C. 3. Construction and ornamental bricks: shaped by extruding, unglazed and wood-fired at a temperature of approximately 800 °C. 4. Red plant post shaped by wheel throwing, unglazed and wood-fired at temperatures between 800-900 °C, sometimes finished with oil plant. 5. Latex cups: shaped by wheel throwing and increasingly by machine, mostly wood-fired in the same kilns as jars, bowls, and plant post at temperatures between 1,200-1,230 °C. All the 7 Ceramics plants in Chanthaburi use local clay from Amphoe Tha Mai and Amphoe Na Yai Am; namely, Tha Tai clay, Ban Soi clay, Nong Si Nga clay, and Nong Khla clay. The clay slip is prepared from Wat Tha Lat muddy clay and ash glazes from remaining ashes of various plants. Large wood-fired kilns are used except for terracotta tiles and architectural elements that are fired in industrial gas kilns. Moreover, the production of latex cup is presently expanding, which has resulted in more construction of wood-fired kilns and increasing demand of gas kilns.en
