dc.description.abstract The interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydro gels of chitosan/ polyacrylamide (CS/PAAm) Were prepared and characterized for the application of drug delivery system. The hydrogels containing different homopolymer compositions were crosslinked with citric acid and N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide (MBAAm). There hydro gels were studied in terms of gel content, swelling, morphology and thermal stability. Drug loading capacity and release properties of hydro gels were inverstigated. The results from gel fraction (%) and ATR-FTIR analysis indicated that the hydro gels were successfully prepared and crosslinked. The effect of pH on the swelling ratio was studied. It was found that CS/ PAAm (1:2) hydrogels exhibited the highest swelling ratio of 8 in pH2 solution. To evaluate the possibility of hudrogels for an application of drug delivery system, the hydrogels were loaded with negatively charged model drug, methyl orange (MO), and tested for the encapsulation capacity. It was found that the loading was initially rapid and the equilibrium was reached after 30 min. The anti-inflammatory drugs, DS and IBU, were also used for the investigation of release behavior. The release efficiency of DS and IBU from CS/PAAm hydrogels was investigated in SGF medium. The prolonged releases of DS and IBU were observed within 72 h of investigation period. As described above, the hydrogels based on CS/ PAAm could be used as a candidate for the development of drug delivery device. The system demonstrated a potential application in the field of drug carrier based on interaction between drug And hydrogel and based on pH at certain location in the body th_TH
